Black Diamond is an annual celebration of the compelling history shared by Black residents in Meadville. This event centers on promoting fellowship among local Black artists, Black businesses, and the greater Meadville community. Through music, food, games, creative demonstrations, and presenters, we create a space for people to learn about issues that impact Meadville's Black community through unique annual themes. The event also invites new Black and Brown students to Allegheny College, many of whom experience culture shock coming from their home cities and feel isolated within the Meadville community, offering them a welcoming space to connect and meet people of all backgrounds.

Rahwa has served as site coordinator for this event and co-photographer for two years. She was honored to photograph the Black Diamond event, documenting the smiles and joy of Black Meadville residents and Black Allegheny students. These photos capture the connection between Allegheny students and the broader Meadville community.

One concern raised is that many Meadville residents feel the College is closed off and isolated, sitting up on the hill, and doesn't offer enough opportunities to engage with the surrounding community. Every spring, when this event takes place, both groups are able to gather at the park, meet one another, and form lasting connections and mentorship/
